Karung guni (gunny sack in Malay) refers to the scrap collectors of Singapore and Malaysia. A karung guni will typically work from dawn to dusk collecting old newspapers, recyclable metals, cloth, etc. In many cases the hours are very extended. They earn a living from collecting all sorts of refuse (both from public wastebins and from citizens wishing to get rid of junk). This track is intended to be a sonic journey through a karung guni's typical day condensed into about 31 minutes. We hope you enjoy it and read up on the subject
